A UNII file (.unii) is a password-protected, encrypted file created using the UNII app. It allows you to securely share images, videos, and PDFs while maintaining full control over who can access them and for how long.
Unlike regular file formats like .jpg or .pdf, a .unii file cannot be opened without the correct password. The contents are encrypted on your device before sharing, so no one — not even UNII — can see what's inside.

A UNII file can contain an encrypted image, video, or PDF. The file extension is always .unii regardless of the original content type.
How to Create a UNII File
When you create a UNII file in the app, the following happens entirely on your device:
- Select your file — Pick any image, video, or PDF from your device.
- Set a password — Create a password that recipients will need to unlock the file.
- Choose save permissions — Decide whether the recipient is allowed to save the decrypted content.
- Encrypt — The file is encrypted with military grade protection and packaged as a .unii file.
- Share — The UNII file is saved to your device, ready to share through any platform.
How to Open a .unii File
To open a .unii file, the recipient needs the UNII app (available on Android and iOS) and the password set by the sender:
- Tap the file — Open the .unii file in the app, either by tapping it directly or selecting it from the unlock screen.
- Enter the password — Type the password provided by the sender.
- View the content — See the decrypted image, video, or PDF.
- Save (if allowed) — If the sender enabled saving, you can download the decrypted content to your device.
How to Revoke Access to a UNII File
The sender can revoke access to a UNII file at any time from the app. Once revoked, the file can no longer be unlocked — even with the correct password. This gives the sender complete control over shared content, even after it has been sent.
