What You Need to Open a .unii File
To open a .unii file, you need two things:
- The UNII app installed on your Android or iOS device
- The password provided by the person who sent you the file
What is a .unii file?
A .unii file is a password-protected, encrypted file that contains an image, video, or PDF. It can only be opened with the UNII app and the correct password.
Steps to Open a .unii File
Download the UNII app
Install the UNII app from the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). It's free to download.
Tap the .unii file
Tap the .unii file you received — from WhatsApp, email, AirDrop, or wherever it was shared. It will automatically open in the UNII app. You can also open the app and pick the file manually.
Enter the password
Type the password that was shared with you by the sender. Without the correct password, the file cannot be unlocked.
View or save the content
The decrypted image, video, or PDF is displayed. If the sender allowed saving, you can download it to your device.
Troubleshooting: .unii File Not Opening
"No app found to open this file"
You need the UNII app installed. Download it from the Google Play Store or App Store, then try tapping the file again.
"Incorrect password"
The password you entered doesn't match. Check with the sender for the correct password. Passwords are case-sensitive.
"Access revoked" or file won't unlock
The sender has revoked access to this file. Once revoked, the file can no longer be opened — even with the correct password. Contact the sender for a new file.
"Invalid file" or "corrupted"
The file may have been damaged during transfer. Ask the sender to share the .unii file again. Make sure the full file was downloaded before opening.
Can I open a .unii file on my computer?
Not yet. UNII files can currently only be opened on Android and iOS devices using the UNII app.
